CFW continues with Kanturk show tonight & some Toni & Guy pics from Sunday:

While the official CFW 2010 Fashion Trail continues tonight with a county show at Colaiste Treasa, Kanturk, we have some images below from the fab Toni & Guy LOVES You fashion show that took place at the historic Pavilion as part of Cork Fashion Week 2010.

Toni & Guy are official sponsors of London Fashion Week so Jackie and her talented team created four key hair looks from LFW and brought them to CFW with the help of fashion makeup artists Suzie from Glo and Mary from Smashbox.
Amazing runway show followed with new collections from Oasis, Topshop, Warehouse and gorgeous new independent store ‘Amity’ on Carey’s Lane. ‘The professional work put in by Jackie and her team at Toni & Guy and the hugely supportive crowd in attendance really showed the strength of Jackie’s long-standing clients at her salon in Cork. This support in fashion in Cork is why CFW is all worthwhile and it was a pleasure to work with the Toni & Guy team’ said CFW Director Vivienne Kelly after the show.
We hope you enjoy the shots from the show and keep an eye on this weeks Evening Echo each night for details on all the weeks events as they unfold. Next up is the Colaiste Treasa show in Kanturk tonight and we cant wait to see what all our fab county independent boutiques have in store for us!

Meet top Irish Designer and CFW Guest for Saturday night’s CFW Young Designer Award event: MIA O’CONNELL:

We are really excited about welcoming top Irish Designer Mia O’Connell to Cork to join guest judges at the CFW Young Designer Awards this Saturday night at Lavitts Quay, in conjunction with Opera Lane.

With a fashion CV to die for, Mia has worked at Marios Schwab London, British Vogue, John Rocha Dublin, The Times London and Sakina M’sa Paris and has been turning heads for some while creating huge waves in the Irish Design scene.

After graduating with a first class honours from The Limerick School of Art and Design in September 2009, Mia set herself a year long project to keep her skills and creativity going ‘ The Eight and a Half Project’, this soon developed into a job beginning with accessories which were taken on for sale by Circus in the Powerscourt Centre. Soon after this, an exhibition of Mia’s new party dress collection which drew inspiration from her stunning graduate collection caught the eye of  Constance Harris at the Irish Independent and a meeting with Constance led to Mia presenting to The Design Centre in Dublin and eventually being  taken on by The Design Centre as Young Designer.

Mia’s current collection can be seen at The Design Centre, Dublin,  Elaine Curtis Carlow and in the coming weeks the collection will be Tippe Canoe Limerick.

Mia will join fellow top Irish Designer and Design Centre’s Claire O’Connor from L’il C Couture, Irish Fashion Journalist and Stylist Ann Marie O’Connor and Evening Echo Fashion Editor Emma Connolly to judge the show and awards this Saturday in the spectacular Lavitts Quay rooftop venue, overlooking the city.

Doors open at 7.30pm. Tickets onsale now from www.tickets.ie and at Origin Hair Design, Drawbridge Street.

West Coast Cooler complimentary drinks reception on arrival.

What Aidan did next….

Meet last years CFW Young Designer winner Aidan Sheehan. A native from Grange, Cork, Aidan wowed guest judges including top Irish Designer Peter O’Brien with his collection on the opening night of last years Cork Fashion Week to win the much coveted prize.

Flying back from his new home in London this weekend, Aidan is really looking forward to showcasing his new collection and encouraging all this years finalists.

”I would advise this years entrants to try and enjoy the evening. Backstage may seem to be a bit chaotic, especially if it’s your first time in a fashion show, but just try to keep calm.” When we asked him how he coped with the madness and frantic backstage atmosphere before his collection hit the runway last year he said ” The models know what they’re doing, and the show will look great in the end, so its really important the design contestants keep their heads and focus on getting their garments right backstage”.

One of the main driving forces behind organising Cork Fashion Week last year for directors Emer O’Sullivan & Vivienne Kelly, was the fact that local design talent seemed to almost always leave our shores for foreign pastures once the talented fledglings graduated.  The CFW awards were divised to provide a platform for the talents of these great design graduates/students and give them a window to showcase their garments at home.

Only days after last years final, Aidan moved to London and was accepted into Central Saint Martin’s College of fashion and design, London. Here he achieved a Post Grad Cert in Innovate Pattern Cutting. He also began an internship with River Island in their Non-Clothing design department. And at the moment Aidan is finishing off his collection for saturday’s spectacular show at Lavitts Quay.

Tickets now onsale on www.tickets.ie and at Origin Hair Design.

Doors open at 7.30pm. Entrance is next to Matthews Sports on Lavitts Quay. Spectacular event venue overlooking the entire city.
